Cage Drive Options

Cage Drives

The mechanism is a centrally driven cage with fixed half bridge spanning half the tank diameter. One end of the bridge is supported by the tank wall and other supported on the center pier.

The drive is mounted on the center pier and the bridge is mounted on the drive.

The cage assembly is hung from the drive and includes the truss type rake arms with scraper blades, and squeezes.

The Feed inlet to the Clarifier is through a pipe running up the center column.

dual cage Drives

The dual cage drive employs the same design for mounting on the center column and for the bridge to mount to the drive.

With this design there is a separate“ high” speed drive which normally powers either an impeller In the case of solids contact clarifiers or a flocculator in the case of flocculating clarifiers.

This allows a single drive to perform multiple functions in a compact, easy to maintain single unit. It is possible to equip this auxiliary drive with a VFD if it is desired to run with variable speeds.

cage Drives with lift mechanisims

With either the single or dual drive, the cage drive maybe equipped with a lift mechanism. This mechanism lift the entire cage and rake assembly off the floor of the clarifier.

Lift mechanisms are normally employed and applications with high and heavy solids loading. This would apply to thickening applications.

As the torque increases due to solids loading the lift automatically raises to reduce the torque loading on the drive. When the lift activates, it actuates an alarm to alert the operator of the increased torque.

The lift continues to raise the Rakes to the maximum lift height at which time it sounds an alarm and stops the drive if the torque has not decreased.

multi-pinion cage drives

For applications where high torque conditions are the normal mode of operation, multiple Dr pinions can be provided on the drive. The number of opinions varies from 2 up to four depending upon the application. Please high torque applications are normally encountered in the minerals industry for the processing of streams with high concentrations of solids.

With the use of multiple pinions, it is possible to design a drive rated for over 2,000,000 ft lbs of torque.

direct cage Drives

For light or heavy-duty mixing applications or small (< 25 ft dia), light duty clarifiers, direct drives can offer a cost-effective alternative.

PRE’s direct drives use the same robust upper reducer as their normal drives and also include direct torque measurements which is displayed on the easy-to-read torque. A 4 - 20 mA signal which may also be sent to the control room for remote monitoring.

This provides an extra level of instrumentation and feedback which is not normally included with most make sure drives.

hydraulic cage Drives

An electric motor drives a high-pressure hydraulic pump system with integral valves, hydraulic motor, oil reservoir, and filter.

Hydraulic Drives use the same robust secondary reducer as their precision main gear/bearing drives and include the same torque measurement display with an easy-to-read torque dial.

An optional 4 - 20 mA signal can be specified which may be sent to the control room for remote monitoring.
